“Diversity & TV News” focuses on diversity issues surrounding television news, and diversity topics covered by those news outlets.
I am Professor Keonte Coleman, the author of this blog. I am an assistant professor at Bennett College in Greensboro, NC, in the Journalism & Media Studies Department. I am a member of the Bennett College Faculty Communication Committee.
I have a background in broadcast journalism, having worked as a television news producer at two Hearst Television stations. I was the 11pm producer most recently at WXII-TV in Winston-Salem, NC. I worked as the 5pm, 6pm, & 10pm producer at WAPT-TV in Jackson, MS. I began as a graphics producer and assignment editor at WAPT-TV, before taking over the 5pm newscast.
I am an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
I received my M.S. degree in Broadcast Journalism from the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University and my B.S. in Mass Communications at Jackson State University. I attended the Summer Research Opportunities Program at the University of Illinois for two summers.
I have attended numerous leadership and broadcast journalism workshops sponsored by the Poynter Institute, NABJ, NAMME, and Hearst Television.
